Get Outdoors With These Fun Challenges!
Summer is half over, are you making the best of it? Use these challenges to get outside and earn yourself a badge or 3!
Scouts BSA is offering the “Summer of Service” certificate and patch. Plan and complete a service project between April 1 and October 31, 2021. Then post about it on social media using #SummerOfService and submit a report about your project to BSA to earn your patch!
GSUSA is offering the “Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge” which culminates in the Girl Scouts Love State Parks celebration September 11-12, 2021. This year’s challenge is sponsored by Hydroflask and many councils were given water bottles to give out as prizes.
The GSUSA challenge is pretty generic to appeal to a broad audience. Many individual GS councils come up with their own versions of an outdoor summer challenge. They often develop their own fun patch to go along with it, with some awesome designs. But that doesn’t mean you are limited to the challenge provided by your council. Some of these council challenges involve doing activities in their area. This could be a fun thing to incorporate into a family vacation! Heck you don’t even have to be a Girl Scout, these checklists make a great jumping off point for summer fun for everyone.

Maybe encouraging participation is your group’s goal? The “National Summertime Pack Award” aims to encourage packs to plan activities and Cub Scouts to participate throughout the summer. The Alamo Area Council even came up with this printable card for Cub Scouts to track their progress.
